timmyspicyman Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I've had a scan through the various pages of the forum on the topic, but haven't really found a conclusive answer. I want to know if it's possible to put an integral child seat in the middle position of the middle row of seats in my 99 MkI Galaxy?? It would only ever be used by a child, so the issue about an adult having a lap strap isn't an issue. We've got 2 1/2 year old twins and another kid on the way in Feb!!! Arrrrghhhh! So time is of the essence. If it's not possible to do this, then our only option is to upgrade to a new Galaxy. Unfortunately this would mean putting the extention to our home on hold, but after test driving an new 2.0 Ghia yesterday, it's quite tempting!! :) Any info would be gratefuly received. thanks. Quote
big_kev Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 A child seat will fit quite happily in the middle position. However if you are just using the built in baby seat then it will be perfectly safe. However if you are looking to use the booster cushion the you will have an issue with no seat belt fixing being available. There is a conversion available which allows a 3-point seat belt to be used with the middle seat ( the one I can remember has a mounting point fitted into the floor behind the seat, there may be others ). It may be possible to convert an integral child seat to a centre seat lap belt ( I think they only originally came in left and right versions ), however you may just as well go for the 3-point conversion. Try here for more info. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=4795 Quote

AndyBee Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) I agree this is entirely possible. You probably need to swap the rh side seat (behind the driver) so the standard seatbelt will still work on the middle seat in the outer position - actually I can't remember which way round the lap belt works on a Mk1, but my point is that you can only swap it with the outer seat that has the buckle on the same side . Of course, if you have the integral child seats already, just give it a try and see - plenty of time before February ! By the way, there are no integral child seats available for the new (Mk III) Galaxy, so trading up will not solve this particular problem (although would give you a much better car in my opinion). Good luck with the new addition. Edited December 29, 2007 by AndyBee Quote
